Beata
Broadcaster of Chung Wah Cantonese radio program
Hello, my name is Beata and my Chinese name is Lee Chan-May, I am a broadcaster of Chung Wah Cantonese radio program. In some Saturday mornings you can hear my voice from FM 95.3 MHz. I came from Hong Kong with my family fifteen years ago. I like living in Perth very much except the moment when I suffer from hay fever.
I love listening to radio since I was very young. I loved to have the radio on with me all the time, even when I was doing my homework (that’s may not be a good example). I can tell titles of song & music even when I hear just a few notes of the tune. I love listening to stories; ghost story or detective stories alike.
I remember when I was young, I held hands with my siblings and hid under a blanket, we leaned our backs against the wall while listening to those scary stories. In my childhood days, talk shows, interviews were not that popular in the radio. Though I love listening to stories, you may not find me a good storyteller, but please tune in! Just because I figure we share a lot of interest in common, other than just stories. Would you take me to be your old fiend?
I love travelling, but not just satisfied with only sight seeing or delicious food but with the actual everyday life happening in the place that I have visited, sharing the experience of the local and learn. I also love to share those experiences with my listeners. Unfortunately I don’t know whether you like it or not.
Please give us your feedback, so that we can tell your preferences or likings.

Helene
Broadcaster of Chung Wah Cantonese radio program
I am Helene. I have been a Cantonese radio announcer since my high school days and now I would count myself as the most experienced among the Chung Wah announcers. This has been one of my several “extracurricular activities” for over ten years now. My day job is a business management consultant and analyst.
I was born in Hong Kong, so far I have spent half my life there and the other half growing up in Perth. After a few years of soul-searching in an “identity crisis”, I refuse to simply be pigeon-holed as “Australian”, “Chinese” or “Hongkie”, and instead see myself as “An Australian Citizen of Chinese heritage from Hong Kong”. This multi-layered identity made me see being a
communication channel as part of my responsibility, and I try to bring information from the mainstream Australian community as well as the world to our listeners in Perth’s Chinese community.
Agnes
Broadcaster of Chung Wah Cantonese radio program
Hi! My name is Agnes. I met Beata about 5,6 years ago at a dinner party, whom introduced me to broadcasting with the Chung Wah Cantonese program on 6EBA, during which I also met a bunch of exceptionally talented teammates.
In the beginning the most difficult part was reading news. Never thought reading news in Cantonese would be such a big task!
Among us, Beata and Helene are the two most experienced, most talented ones. Beata has great knowledge in our Chinese culture; excellent whether comparing a show or cooking up a feast. Helene has a successful career. She travels a lot which enriches her life. She is fluent in both English and Chinese and has a talent in music. Jeffery is the youngest among us all, yet has a very
mature view in life and very deep in thinking. Last but not least, Clement’s talents are well known to everyone. He’s won so many competitions in flower arrangement, and I bet he has lost count.
Well, I feel so insignificant comparatively, just hope one day I’ll pick up a few tricks and be benefited from them. We are really grateful for all the support from our listeners. Every time we received a call with compliment, we were so excited and felt like we were given an extra shot of stimulant to keep us going.
I hope we’ve not only brought entertainment to our listeners, but also enlightenment by talking on subjects that interest our life and arouse awareness of issues surrounding us. We are a part of the world after all. We all need to put in our bit in order to make a better tomorrow.
We thrive on your support and encouragement!
Please continue to show your support for us and give us feedback so that we can perfect our program to meeting your needs.
Have a wonderfully 2008!

Vivienne
Broadcaster of Chung Wah Mandarin radio program
I am Vivienne Deng from JiangXi province, China, a familiar stranger of yours, a “home accent” always here for you on the air of Perth from 6pm to 7pm every Wednesday. I define myself as a moonstruck “miscellaneous hunter” because I like to set foot in some distinct fields. My friends are always confused why did I chose an academic career which seems too boring and quiet to suit a lively and dynamic extravert like me, who like singing, dancing and the like glaring stuff. I find that every field of career possesses a unique aesthetic feeling. You could not get the enjoyable feeling unless you actually step into the field. Hence, my goal is to be a “miscellaneous amateur” in order to achieve different wonderfulness and enjoyment. I like the special atmosphere of listening to music and communicating on air, which drives me to longing for being a broadcaster. I appreciate Chung Wah Association for enabling me to broadcast in my own language abroad and to contribute to help immigrants with Chinese background know more information closely linked to their living in
Australian. Despite a limited one hour program every week, it can be regarded as a forever appointment with you, our dear listeners, with all the weathers. It sounds an undesigned touch which I hope would bring you happiness sometimes as well as retain our persistent attention on you.

Broadcaster of Chung Wah Mandarin radio program
When Elvie asked if I am interested of joining the team of radio presenter for a mandarin program, I was surprise of such opportunity. But feared on the other hand of weather I am capable of it or not. I took the challenge and it had been a good 4 weeks of amateur trial.
Inspired by the book “New York Walker”, I brought in the section of “Perth Walker” to the show. Being in Perth for a substantial time to know where and about, I love to take the time to walk on the less known places around. “Subiaco Walk” is just a start, and there are many more interesting places to visit around. If you stay tune on the show, perhaps you will felt a little bit closer to the place of where you study, live and works.
The show had evolved from a formal presenting, to an era of talk show. I see it as a good progression towards out reach the vast audience. As a community radio station, especially an ethic based radio station, it had been our duty to promote the divers culture but also break down the boundary among all. I believe introduction of a localized and familiar tune of the show would enable our audience to felt more like home here.
I hope to bring in a new breath towards the existing well reputed show, and a different tune of excitement towards the array.

Media has been my best companion since I was young, I noticed its power since then. I found that it could be very impactful to a lonely person when a friendly voice speaking comforting words over the radio. I started to begin my journey to pursuit for the ambition in media industry after I graduated from high school. I believe we should take initiative to grab every opportunity. I always endeavoured to participant in every media-related work opportunity when I was in college and university. At least it would not make me regret because I have tried my best.
Eventually, I have realised my ambition to be a radio broadcaster in November 2003. Under the witness of my trainer, I started to share my thought and information to the audience on air. To a family-minded girl like me who came to Western Australia alone, every Wednesday 6pm to 7pm this one hour program is my most favourable hour throughout the week. I sincerely hope that this program could also brings the warmth of a family to all audience.
