The Polish Radio Kurier was born on 27 March 1988 to promote Polish culture and language and to keep the local Polish community well informed. Since 1993 the program has been broadcast on World Radio 6EBA-FM under the auspices of the Polish Australian Cultural Society in Western Australia Inc.Over the years so many people took part in making this program; for some of them it was the beginning of their professional career in journalism - Leszek Jakubik became an ABC TV news reporter, and Adrian Kwintowski became the editor of the Kalgoorlie Miner newspaper, to name just few... There were also Krystyna Jalowiecka-Rog and Pawel Mankowski who produced many programs in the past.

Andrew Basinski, whose career in broadcasting started many years ago back in Poland, has been the program's producer and and console operator from Kurier's inception.

Today the magazine style program has a full team of volunteers including Mieczyslaw Bieganski, Fr. Tomasz Bujakowski and Ewa Jaroszewicz (arts and culture correspondent from Warsaw), and last but not least Jacek Slawomirski.

Curently Polish Radio Kurier offers its listeners variety of programs such as:

  • News about Australia from Perth perspective
  • Poland as seen from Abroad or the week in our Homeland
  • Local news about Polish community events
  • What's going on? - the latest from the Polish music scene
  • A Word about Words - a linguist clarifies Polish language dilemmas
  • Radio talks on tradition, customs and social behavior
  • What's new in Polish arts and culture - live from our Warsaw correspondent
  • Reflections on culture and religion
  • Radio talks on classical music and composers
  • Polish humor and cabaret
  • The hiss of the vinyl - Polish songs from the past
  • Interviews and talkback and much more.

Unforgettable Moments...

Overthe years we have interviewed so many interesting people from Perth,Australia, Poland and other countries as well - having them either livein the studio or over the phone - it would be difficult to name them all

But- it was that visit in November 2006 which closed off Fitzgerald Streetin North Perth for a while when a Polish Harley-Davidson gang ofmotorbikies tried to park their gold machines outside our radiostation, before popping in for a colorful chat... For the last fewyears they have been touring the world on their Harley Davidsonmachines. Despite their rather strange (all black!) looks, all guysturned out to be very friendly and good talkers as well. Good for theradio!

Today in the Studio:

14/06/2007

Voytek Kozlowski, a Polish-born, highly acclaimed sculptor-metal artist from Dunsborough (WA) popped in to our studio the other day for an interview. We asked him where his passion for working with metal came from. He said he was inspired by the beautiful vineyard and natural bushland of Margaret River where his gallery is located overlooking the stunning view of Geographe Bay, all in all he said was the ideal setting in which to be creative. You can listen to more in our program on Wednesday, 4 July 2007 at 2 pm.
