Latin American Cultural Association - (LACA)

Meet the team:
Numerous producers and broadcasters, both ongoing and casual, from all over the Spanish-speaking world have contributed their time and enthusiasm. Each of them has shared with the audience the colours and flavours of their home countries such as Argentina, Chile, Colombia, El Salvador, Guatemala and Spain, to name a few.
Regular features in the program include both pre-recorded and live interviews, a wide range of news and music from Central and South America, advertising and promotion of a variety of community events. It also includes traditional food recipes and competitions as well as talk back segments about current events, movies, sports and community messages.
Victoria Besoain was the first producer, followed by Ximena Zumarán, Paulina Turrientes, Carmen Domínguez, Umberto Alfaro and todays Irene Baez. The producers’ efforts have been supported over the years by regular casual broadcasters like Jorge Llopis, Vinicio Molina, Nilda Eisen, Sonia Higgins and Diana Rodriguez and occasional contributors Thelma López, Ester Arias, Marcelo Einstoss, Diego Palleros Jr., Eduardo Cornejo, Vicky Tánchez and Lucía Velázquez.

Frecuencia Latina, is produced by the Latin American Cultural Association LACA Inc. The program was the brainchild of Victoria Besoain, a former Curtin University Broadcasting student and has been on air uninterruptedly every Monday since 1995. Victoria approached the LACA Inc. management committee with a clear outline of a Latin American community radio program very much needed in Perth at the time, and the initiative was taken on board by LACA without hesitation. We have not looked back since.
