AGM 2009 elects New Management Council

The Multicultural Radio & Television Association of WA Inc. held its Annual General Meeting this year on the 18th October 2009. The venue was the Floreat Athena Soccer Club where over 100 members, their guests and friends attended the meeting, followed by a luncheon prepared by the Club's chef Mr. Peter Kalogeracos allowing members to socialize, relax and catch up.

The Australian Albanian Society of Perth Inc. hit the air waves with their first program this Friday 11th September 2009.
The Association incorporated in June 2007 with a registered office in Dianella aims to bring the Albanian Community together, assist people to find work, housing and maintain its culture by promoting regular family gatherings with a particular focus on assisting its older citizens.

The "Sikh Sangeet" program is run by volunteers from the Sikh Association of WA Inc.
Heading up a team 7 volunteers is Mr.Amrit Pal Singh who is the Senior Producer.
The program goes to air every Thursday 7am.
The language is Panjabi.

A chance encounter and then a follow up conversation with Connie Di Perna led to one of the most fulfilling experiences in my teaching career; the opportunity to have the Mount Lawley Senior High School Italian exchange students and some of the hosts participate in the last program of Un' Ora Con Voi on Monday 17th August.

The McNair Ingenuity Community Radio Listenership Survey results were released earlier this month at Parliament House and showed an increase from 47% of Australians (aged 15+) listening to community radio every month in 2006, to 57% in 2008

Niki is taking part in the Rotary Group Study Exchange which sees people from different cultures and countries meet up with others in their profession whilst developing professional and leadership skills and travelling the world.

With every new year come some changes, some good, other not so good. Well this year 6EBA sees some changes too. Sadly we are losing Olivia Holmes who has been with us for 15 months now having completed some pretty fantastic projects for the station. Taking Olivia's place is Kosta Kalantzis as an ECU Sports Medicine graduate promises to bring some exciting new projects to the young people in Maylands and surrounding schools. This evening 6EBA's Olivia Holmes and Ethel Wallam on behalf of the station's indigenous radio program "Whadjuk Radio" very proudly accepted the Category 1 Award for Working creatively to make a difference (small group/organisation) in the 2007 Community Industry Service Awards presentations held in Nedlands.
Whadjuk Radio produced by Olivia and Ethel and the team is Perth's only indigenous radio program.

The Multicultural Radio & Television Association of WA Inc. celebrated yet another successful year of community radio broadcasting on the 21/10/2007 at the Macedonian Hall where it held its annual Annual General Meeting.
The evening saw some 160 members and their guests enjoy themselves over an excellent buffet dinner catered by Memories.
After dinner we were entertained by the beautiful voices of the "Musicantes" and our own Guiseppe Bertinazzo.

New Program "Building Bridges" hits the air waves !

Perth’s own multicultural radio station, 6EBA-FM has teamed up with the Metropolitan Migrant Resource Centre to form a brand new program, Building Bridges. The program aims to target an audience of people new to Australia, helping them to settle in their new country.

ALP'S Senator Stephen Conroy, Shadow Minister for Communications and Information Technology and Deputy Opposition Leader in the Senate has acknowledged our concerns about the depleting funding to the sector and has pledged that the Rudd government would seek to improve capacity to community stations throughout Australia.

The community broadcasting sector welcomes the report of the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Communications, Information Technology and the Arts which recommends that the Government commit an additional $10 million in core funding each year to fund station managers, increase targeted funding to $5 million to provide for station equipment upgrades and an additional $0.5 million for training initiatives.

In July community broadcasting launched a national campaign, Value our Voices, for increased federal funds. They need your help to succeed.
The National Ethnic & Multicultural Broadcasters’ Council (NEMBC) is an integral part of the campaign, which calls for an additional $16.8m, on top of the $8.1m currently provided by Canberra.

Indigenous Affairs Minister Michelle Roberts announced the PALS (Partnership, Acceptance, Learning and Sharing) sponsorship to Whadjuk Indigenous Radio at its 6EBA-FM Maylands studios, before members of the Riverlands Montessori Community School and elders from the Autumn Centre in Bayswater.
Riverlands and the Autumn Centre have participated in the award-winning PALS project for the past two years and are planning to extend their involvement in 2007.
